Effective & Cheap Way To Clean Windows-Mirrors

A Little Background for How This Method Came About

My mother actually gave me this method of cleaning windows and mirrors because she has tried every glass cleaning product available and so have I. No mater what the bottle said; there were always streaks and smears. We would always have to go over the area again.

My mother also has respiratory problems and it was important for her to find some way of cleaning her mirrors and windows without breathing in toxic particles that would affect her breathing. So, she calls me up one day and said that she had finally discovered a way to accomplish this. She was so excited because she was amazed at how such a simple and very inexpensive idea could be so effective. Thanks, Mom, for sharing this with me. This is the only way that I clean my mirrors and windows now.

I now share the idea with all of you. Try it for yourself and see if ithis is not the greatest way to clean your windows and mirrors. I suppose you could probably use this on other non-wiood surfaces, but I have never tried it.

What You'll Need & How to Make It

• Small 1 to 2 gallon mop bucket or cleaning bucket

• Hot Water

• Lemon Scented Dish Soap

• Two cleaning towels or rags (one for washing with and one for drying)----make sure these are of little lint problems.

− Instructions are as easy as adding 3 to 4 drops of lemon scented dish liquid per gallon of hot water. There you have it! You're ready to start cleaning those windows and mirrors. Isn't that the simplest thing you have ever heard?

Place one cleaning towel in the hot water and soap solution, wet, and wring out. Clean away. If you have a large area to do, just clean in sections. After you have cleaned with the wet cloth, dry with the other one. You will be amazed. Happy cleaning and you just saved yourself a lot of money on glass cleaners!

You know, this makes perfect sense now that you've pointed it out. I mean, what is a mirror? It's glass on top of a shiny backing. Glass. lol. What are dishes, if not just that, glass? I mean, technically, ceramics, but, like, my glasses are glass. Sometimes the most obvious things escape us. Very cool idea for a hub. (Oh, and double check the word "simple" in your second paragraph. :P )

Thanks for the comment, Shadesbreath. Correction made. I've got to remember to put my glasses on.

Also, the dish soap has to be lemon scented. I have found it works the best. Lemon seems to be really great at cutting through dirt and grime.

De Greek, glad to see someone else has caught on to this method. Mothers' are the greatest aren't they? They have so much wisdom to share. Thank you for the comment. I have also tried the newspapers, but I prefer cloth. Call me old fashion I guess.

There is nothing like clean windows to make the whole house look great! I've used newspapers too but the newer ink supposedly does not clean windows as well as the old newspapers.

Thanks, Dolores. I also used newspaper at one time, but I have found that the cloth works for me. Thanks for the feedback.

To remove animal nose prints from glass, add a little vinegar.

You can also add a little ammonia, or rubbing alcohol, but don't mix ammonia and vinegar together. In fact, it's better to not mix any household chemicals. Just use a little dish detergent and one other chemical. If you have hard water, use distilled water.
